Abstract

Behdini dialect is one of the central dialects of Iran as well-known as Dari. This dialect has two varieties, Yazdi and Kermani. The current paper focused on the Yazdi dialect as one of the rarely survived dialects of its ancient group. In the present research, the verbal system in Behdini Mahlati dialect of Yazd checked out. Semi-structured interviews and indirect elicitation techniques were two parts of the data gathering method,, and all sentences were recorded, analyzed, and studied gathered from informants aged 21 to 70, of a corpus of 11500 words. Different sentences for each verb were registered to show the example of using each verb. The results show that this dialect uses specific clitics to form the agreements between Noun Phrase and verbs; makes various tenses. Behdini Mahlati dialect is also an instance of dialects that retained split ergativity in the past tense of transitive verbs in their verbal system.
